As a hiring manager I am completely against Word documents. There are almost always formatting issues, version issues, and loading issues. As a Mac user I bet 50% of the resumes I receive aren’t displaying the way the candidate intended it to look.

Use PDF, send as plain-text or if you must: HTML.

And since I’m spouting off: make it one page, be brief, we know you did a lot of things so only tell me about the interesting ones that pertain in some way to the job you’re applying for. If you have an “objective” at the top of your resume, please please please, make sure it overlaps with the job description I have written.

I want to hire you, give me reasons to.

You can set Word (and the other Office apps) to save to the old 2003 format. A bit of Googling will find give you the instructions.

Yes proof read, then have someone else proof read. I have tossed many a resume for misspellings that were probably just typos.

You shouldn’t be sending your resume in a word file (doc or docx) anyway. It should be sent it as a PDF. Depending on the version of word the person is using the formatting can change and make it look sloppy. The fact that word underlines misspellings will draw attention to them, even if it is correct just obscure.

Unless you are specifically told word is preferred, avoid it.

StatCounter and most other programs slightly inflate stats. You might think you have 200k a month, but b5’s new tool will probably say you have closer to 120k. And at that rate, you would be getting around $480/m + bonuses. Still not bad, but with some time spent on ad sales on your own, you could most likely earn a similar or larger income on your own.

Guess it depends on how much time you have to invest in the secondary needs of your blog.
