What’s happening in the Tampa Bay tech/entrepreneur/nerd scene (Week of Monday, September 6, 2021)

Here’s your weekly list of tech, entrepreneur, and nerd events — plus a little area tech news — for Tampa Bay and surrounding areas for the week of Monday, September 6 through Sunday, September 12, 2021.

This is a weekly service from Tampa Bay’s tech blog, Global Nerdy! For the past four years, I’ve been compiling a list of tech, entrepreneur, and nerd events happening in Tampa Bay and surrounding areas. There’s a lot going on in our scene here in “The Other Bay Area, on the Other West Coast”!

As far as event types go, this list casts a rather wide net. It includes events that would be of interest to techies, nerds, and entrepreneurs. It includes (but isn’t limited to) events that fall under the category of:

  • Programming, DevOps, systems administration, and testing
  • Tech project management / agile processes
  • Video, board, and role-playing games
  • Book, philosophy, and discussion clubs
  • Tech, business, and entrepreneur networking events
  • Toastmasters (because nerds really need to up their presentation game)
  • Sci-fi, fantasy, and other genre fandoms
  • Anything I deem geeky

By “Tampa Bay and surrounding areas”, this list covers events that originate or are aimed at the area within 100 miles of the Port of Tampa. At the very least, that includes the cities of Tampa, St. Petersburg, and Clearwater, but as far north as Ocala, as far south as Fort Myers, and includes Orlando and its surrounding cities.

Needless to say, these are all-time highs. With that in mind, I’ve chosen to limit the events listed to outdoor or online events. Be safe, be responsible, get your shots, and we can get back to those better numbers that we had in the spring and early summer!

Here’s your list of tech, entrepreneur, and nerd events for Tampa Bay and surrounding areas for the week of Monday, April 26 through Sunday, May 2, 2021.

By “Tampa Bay and surrounding areas”, this list covers events that originate or are aimed at the area within 100 miles of the Port of Tampa. Yes, many of us have had their first (and even second!) vaccines, but we’re not at the point where it’s advisable to return to pre-pandemic-style in-person events. It will happen soon, but in the meantime, I’m restricting this list to online events. In the age of broadband internet, smartphones, and social media, it’s not that hard. Stay home, stay safe, stay connected, and #MakeItTampaBay!

What’s happening in the Tampa Bay tech/entrepreneur/nerd scene (Week of Monday, December 9, 2019)

We’re in the top 20!

Why did Tampa Bay make the top 20 in CompTIA’s 2019 list of U.S. metros for technology jobs? One of the biggest reasons is the Tampa Bay tech community, who not only do their day jobs, but make outstanding contributions to the tech scene. They get involved in events where they share their knowledge, make connections and friends, and gather together to build strong tech, entrepreneur, and nerd communities. That’s why I do this every week: I put together a list of tech, entrepreneur, and nerd events to make sure that they can be found and you can attend them!

This weekly list is posted as a voluntary service to the Tampa tech community. With the notable exceptions of Tampa iOS Meetup and Coders, Creatives and Craft Beer — both of which I run — most of this information comes from Meetup.com, EventBrite, and other local event announcement sites. On Wednesday, Computer Coach and High Tech Connect will host their holiday party at Brick House (where Dale Mabry meets the 275) from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m.. Join them for one of the big tech community get-togethers, and help them out with their Toys for Tots campaign! They’re taking donations of new, unwrapped toys.

Hey, Tampa Bay techies, entrpreneurs, and nerds — here’s what’s happening in Tampa Bay this week!

It’s the week of Thanksgiving, so things are going to be more quiet than usual. Take the time to kick back, take stock, and find things to be thankful for, which should include being based in the best small tech talent market in North America. Next week, we’ll probably see the number of events ramp up as our local meetups start throwing their Holiday parties.
